'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the dramatic dying seconds of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range effort from distance, and the defender immediately converted the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an unbelievable recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the second half. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win booked a next round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right defensive wing after they changed shape. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to dictate and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that development for his team and nation, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

His only game for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a long trip and it was freezing," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "This turned out quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
